Kidnap for ransom: Security guard arrested in Shs 20 million scam

The territorial Police at Kira road have arrested a security guard identified as Steven Mugisa, a resident of Upper Kazinga zone, Nakawa Division in Kampala City

Mugisa was arrested on December 6, 2022 during an operation, following a report from one Herman Mugarura, a resident of the same area who accused the suspect of kidnapping his daughter Isabella Musimenta, 2; and was demanding a ransom of Shs 20 million.

Kampala Metropolitan Police Spokesperson Patrick Onyango says that the Police embarked on an investigation and tracked the suspect who was later arrested and the child was also rescued alive.

“We have also established that the parents had sent 1m as part payment of the 20m demanded by the kidnapper. 600,000 was recovered at the scene and has since been exhibited together with two new Sim cards,” Onyango said.

Onyango appealed to the public to remain vigilant in their communities, especially during this long holiday.

“The Police have noted a slight increase in cases of kidnap for ransom, where assailants keep surveillance of their victims and later kidnap them using motorcycles as gateway means. We shall investigate this matter and have the suspect produced in court on allegations of aggravated trafficking in persons,” Onyango said.
