The architectural design of the new Chapel

King’s College Budo has raised Shs 888.9 million from a grand fundraising dinner held on Friday evening at the school’s Main Hall, as part of an ambitious plan to construct a new students’ chapel to replace the one built in 1959.

The colorful dinner brought together old Budonians, clergy, parents, students, and well-wishers, in what many described as a landmark event in the school’s spiritual and historical journey — blending faith, legacy, and philanthropy.

The retired Bishop of Namirembe Diocese, Rt. Rev. Wilberforce Kityo Luwalira, who presided over the function, urged Budonians to uphold the school’s Christian foundation and support projects that promote moral and spiritual growth.

“King’s College Budo was built on a foundation of faith and service. Let us continue to build structures that remind our children of God’s grace and inspire them to serve humanity with integrity,” said Bishop Luwalira.

According to Canon John Fred Kazibwe, the Principal of King’s College Budo, the proposed new chapel will accommodate up to 2,000 worshippers, addressing the growing population that has outstripped the capacity of the existing structure.

“The school population has grown exponentially since 1959. The existing chapel can no longer hold all our students during worship,” Canon Kazibwe said. “This new structure will not only be a place of prayer but a symbol of the enduring faith that defines Budo.”

The architectural design, he added, will reflect a blend of tradition and modernity — maintaining Budo’s historical identity while meeting contemporary worship needs.

By the end of the evening, the school had realized UGX 888,932,575, with UGX 705,932,575 received in cash and UGX 182,325,000 pledged — bringing the project closer to its UGX 1 billion goal.

“We are deeply grateful to every Budonian who gave and prayed for this project,” Canon Kazibwe said. “This chapel will stand as a legacy of unity, faith, and devotion to God.”

The new chapel adds to an impressive list of recent developments at Budo — including Grace House, Australia House, and several modern classroom blocks — which have transformed the school’s learning environment over the last few years.

Bishop Luwalira emphasized that the school’s strength lies not only in academic excellence but also in its commitment to spiritual and moral formation.

“Budo is not just about academics — it’s about character,” he said. “The new chapel will remind every Budonian that true success begins with faith and humility.”

According to the organizing committee, construction of the new chapel will begin once architectural reviews and diocesan approvals are completed. The structure is expected to feature state-of-the-art acoustics, energy-efficient lighting, and dedicated spaces for prayer, choir practice, and pastoral counseling.

The initiative has attracted overwhelming support from alumni associations worldwide, many of whom have pledged to continue fundraising until the chapel is fully completed — ensuring that King’s College Budo’s legacy of faith and excellence continues to shine for generations to come.
