RIP: Amongin
Makerere University has confirmed that the late Ms. Amongin Francisca (24/U/22669), who died on May 9, 2026, succumbed to suffocation caused by oxygen deprivation and inhalation of harmful gases, specifically carbon monoxide poisoning.
According to a statement issued by the Minister for Students’ Affairs, Mr. Owen Nasasira, the incident is believed to have resulted from a stove left on in a poorly ventilated room with the door and windows closed. The university described her as a dear sister, a Year 2 student pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Education (Mathematics & Economics).
Burial will take place tomorrow, Tuesday, at 10:00 AM in Aninolal Village, Inomo Sub-county, Kwania District, her ancestral home. The university community has been urged to keep Ms. Amongin’s family, friends, and classmates in their prayers during this difficult time, as students and staff continue to mourn the loss of their colleague.
