Kyambogo University finalist with disability dies days to his graduation
Every year, International Day of Persons with Disabilities is observed on December 3, 2023.
In Uganda and Kyambogo University in particular, the whole University is mourning the death of a finalist.
The deceased has been identified as Edward Mwenda, 21.
Mwenda, who was waiting to graduate next Friday, had successfully finished a Bachelor of Counseling and Guidance at the University.
However, he passed on early this morning.
“Kyambogo University’s Edward Mwenda, a 21 year-old student of Bachelor of Guidance and Counseling @kyambogou, was born with no disability till age 6 when a strange disease crippled him. To ease his education, @kyambogou provided him with a tricycle and a paid guide to support him on a daily basis,” the University posted on X this morning.
Mwenda’s friend, Julius Kizito, says that the deceased will be missed.
“In utter disbelief and deep sorrow over the loss of my dear friend and coursemate, Mwenda Edward. We shared laughter, dreams, and the journey through @kyambogou since 2019. It’s unfortunate that you have not been able to make it to the graduation coming this week 7/12/23.“
Mwenda was born with no disability. However, at the age of six, a strange illness attacked him and crippled him.
In 2019, the University provided him with a tricycle and a paid guide to support him on a daily basis.
