Link Bus Fire: Report says bus had no fire extinguisher on board, reveals cause of incident

By Marvin Ocol

A preliminary report following a fire outbreak on a Link Bus Services bus shows that it had no fire extinguisher on board.

Last evening, the bus registration number UBD 269 A (Scania) belonging to Link Bus Services caught fire at Wakaliga in Kampala as it entered the city centre from Kasese.

By the time Police’s Fire Prevention and Rescue Services responded, the fire had been extinguished by other first responders using a nearby fire extinguisher, water and Sand.

The exact cause of the fire has not been established, but preliminary investigations have attributed it to a short circuit in one of the headlamps.

“We did not register any injuries or deaths and neither did the passengers lose any of their items from the bus,” Deputy Kampala Metropolitan Police Spokesperson Luke Owoyesigyire said adding that “The fire prevention and rescue services has however noted that the bus had no fire extinguisher of its own. We advise all passengers and bus operators to have the fire extinguishers in place in case of a fire emergency.”
