REMANDED: Ojuka
On Tuesday afternoon, the State House Anti-Corruption Unit, working with the Criminal Investigations Directorate and the Office of the Directorate of Public Prosecutions, arraigned Ojuka Anthony, former district councillor and secretary of the Production and Natural Resources Committee, Lira District, before the Anti-Corruption Court on charges of corruption and conspiracy to defraud.
In 2023, the accused and others, including the Lira District Land Board Chairperson, Chankoma Paul, solicited a bribe of Shs 70M and received Shs 5M as part of it from Eryao Francis, who had bought land comprised in the freehold register, LIRI 181, Folio 3, Plot 31 in Lira, whose title they claimed had been issued fraudulently to the former owners, and it was supposed to be cancelled.
They claimed that they were able to influence the decision of the land board not to cancel his title.
He has been remanded until May 27, 2025.
