Lira RCC Egole writes to Minister on Land Board: ..Your directive was ignored, normal fraudulent land transaction continues with impunity
By Daniel Mwesigwa
In a highly confidential letter, Lira Resident City Commissioner Emmy Lawrence Egole said: “You in deed wrote to the CAO Lira direction (sic) him to suspend all lad transaction in lira District and Lira City until investigations into alleged fraud cases are concluded.”
However, in the 04.02.2022 dated letter to Lands Minister Judith Nabakooba, Egole noted: “It is sad to note that your directive was ignored and normal fraudulent land transaction continues to take place with impunity.”
At 9:30pm on the night of 03.02.2022, the Secretary Lira District Land Board Francis Okello Olwa was intercepted with land related documents stuffed in his car, driving it away. He was arrested and detained.
“I am however not happy with the manner in which this matter is being handled, Egole wrote.
“I kindly request that you issue a directive so that investigations into this matter are immediately taken over by an investigating team you will name because the Chairman Lira district, who seems to be part of the scandal is working tooth and nail to frustrate the case,” Egole.
Hours later, Nabakooba wrote to the CAO (Chief Administrative Officer): ” The purpose of this letter is to suspend the officials of the board to pave way for investigations into the allegations and new members to be nominated for appointments and my approval.”
By a copy of the same letter, Nabakooba directed the Inspectorate of Government to take up the matter for investigations and further guide the course of action against those who may be found culpable in the levelled allegations.
