LIRA: Thugs kidnap businesswoman’s daughter, maid in Shs 1 million ransom
Unknown people have kidnapped two young girls in the northern district of Lira.
The victims have been identified as Roshny Kalungi, 4, and Juliana Nabunge, 15. Kalungi is the daughter of Safinah Nangaya, 25. Nangaya is a businesswoman at the main market, while Nabunge is her maid.
On October 6, 2024, at about 10 a.m., Nangaya left her daughter with her three maids, Juliana, Lydia, and Monica, and proceeded for work at the Lira main market in Lira city. At around 7 p.m., she returned home. However, she realized that her daughter, Roshny, and the maid, Juliana, were not at home. Nangaya tried to confirm the location from the other maids, but they informed her that both Juliana and Roshny moved out to buy some groceries. Nangaya decided to call Juliana’s phone. When Juliana picked up the phone, Nangaya narrated how two unknown men had kidnapped them. The Nangaya tried to call again, and it was a man who received it and demanded a ransom of Shs 1 million, and the said money was to be put on a bodaboda and delivered to them.
It was then that Nangaya, a resident of Kakoge in Lira West Division in Lira City, decided to report the matter via CRB: 623/2024 of the Central Police Statio (CPS).
Security then took to track the caller’s phone, leading to the arrest of Moses Atong, 78. Atong is a resident of Anai Cell, Anai Ward, Lira City West Division in Lira City.
Security sources say Atong connived with the maid in a bid to obtain money from Naganya.
By press time, the kidnapped child had been recovered and handed back to its mother.
