Luweero: Man dies in attempt to retrieve body of missing sister from pit latrine

The Territorial Police in Luwero district is actively investigating a case of Rush and Neglect that occurred on Friday, 26/01/2024, at approximately 0800/c at Kanyanda LC1, Kanyanda Parish, Makulubita in Luweero district that resulted in the death of two people. 
The deceased have been identified as Nakimera Magret, 30; A housemaid to Nalwanga Faith, and Ssempijja Yonasan, 50, brother to Nakimera.
Preliminary information indicates that on 26/01/2024 at around 0800hrs Nakimera, left home, went to look for firewood in the nearest bushes and in the process fell in the pit latrine of Kaiza. The next day Nalwanga reported the matter of the disappearance of her maid to LC1 of the area, who also mobilized people who mounted the search in and around the bushes, only to discover Nakimera was in the pit latrine and already dead. Immediately his biological brother, Ssempijja, entered the pit latrine to rescue his sister. Unfortunately, he also died in the process.

Regional Police Spokesman Sam Twiineamaziima confirmed the incident.

“Police responded immediately, a case of Rush and Neglect was registered, the scene of Crime was visited and documented by Soco, two bodies were retrieved from the latrine by the Fire Brigade Team, statements were recorded from relevant witnesses and bodies were conveyed to Luwero Hospital for postmortem examination.“
