Kampala – Police have arrested 28 suspects, including individuals linked to a gang rape case in Mbalwa, following coordinated security operations across parts of Kampala Metropolitan Area and Mukono District.
According to police, the operations were conducted by officers under Kira Road Division, Kira Division, and Mukono Police, targeting criminal gangs involved in robbery, waylaying members of the public, drug abuse, and related offences.
The raids covered several crime-prone areas, including Kamwokya, Kyanja, Kisaasi, Kitifumba Shimoni, Kira Taxi Park, Mbalwa–Namugongo, and Wantoni in Mukono District.
Among those arrested are suspects believed to be connected to a recent gang rape incident in Mbalwa, police said.
During the operations, officers recovered several exhibits, including suspected narcotic substances, suspected stolen mobile phones, sharp objects believed to have been used in robberies, and a computer allegedly used to crack phone passwords.
“All the suspects are currently detained at their respective police stations pending completion of investigations and prosecution,” police said in a statement.
Kampala Metropolitan Police Deputy Public Relations Officer ASP Luke Owoyesigyire said police will continue with targeted operations to dismantle criminal networks and enhance public safety.
“Police remain committed to conducting sustained operations in affected areas to curb criminality and ensure the safety of the public,” Owoyesigyire said.
