Michael Mawanda: Gashumba celebrates arrest of a fellow PLU member

Frank Gashumba, the Vice Chairman of the PLU (Patriotic League of Uganda) in the Central Region, is in high spirits following the arrest of his fellow League member.

Gashumba’s “Ejoogo n’okulengezza abantu bijja kukoma. Abamu baali balowooza nti eno ensi yabwe!!” comment came shortly after Michael Mawanda (Igara East, MP) was arrested and detained at Nateete Police Division in Kampala.

Mawanda is PLU’s chairperson of the PLU Disciplinary Committee.

It all started last month when Gashumba posted on his X handle accusing security agencies of sleeping on the job, yet insecurity was spiraling out of control in Kampala City.

In that post, Gashumba tagged Gen. Muhoozi among other security chiefs, saying if the mighty UPDF that fought Al Shabaab in Somalia why can’t it fight these unarmed thugs. Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba is the Chief of Defense Forces (CDF). He also doubles as the Chairman of PLU.

He also advised Security Chiefs to resign if these small boys can defeat them.

Mawanda, wrote to Gashumba to appear before PLU’s Disciplinary committee arguing that the latter’s outburst in the Media had brought disrepute to PLU’s Chairman, Gen. Muhoozi.

Gashumba did not take this well and reminded Mawanda. He reminded Mawanda of the clean hands doctrine which is based on the maxim of equity of “he who comes into equity must come with clean hands.”

Mawanda is reportedly being held over Shs 164bn Cooperatives cash.

By press time, Mawanda was still in police custody.
