The suspects have been identified as Isaac Akandwanaho, 25, a resident of Kamabare village, Bitereko sub county Mitooma district, who was arrested last evening at Bwindi hotel while his counterpart Ephraim Matsiko was arrested from Mbarara.
Earlier, Akandwanaho robbed Brenda Birungi, a mobile money operator of Shs 530, 000.
According to our sources, Birungi was at home when their dog started barking uncontrollably. She then asked one of her children to open the door.
Akandwanaho put them at gun point demanding for money.
“On opening the door, immediately two men armed with a gun entered inside the house on pretext that they were tracking phones of which they suspected to be with the victim,” a source says.
Soon after the robber left, Birungi phoned Kabale Central Police Station and reported the matter.
It is against the above background that an investigation started.
In conjunction with Mbarara police, intelligence information was received that the said suspects were staying at Bwindi Hotel, room No.4 in Kabale Municipality.
A search was conducted in the said Hotel and a gun s/no. UG PSO 4000741 10983 with three rounds of live ammunitions, two knives, clothes and documents in the name of Akandwanaho were recovered.
Unfortunately, the suspects had moved out of the said room. That is when the manager of the hotel, Boaz Byonanebye, was arrested to assist in the investigations.
He, was however arrested from the same hotel where the deployment of security was maintained after they missed him during the day, something he didn’t know about.
