Moneylender takes Ex-Prime Minister to court over Shs 500 million debt

A money lender based in Kira Municipality has dragged former Deputy Prime Minister, Henry Muganwa Kajura, to Masindi High Court over a debt of Shs 500 million.
According to Sali Abdul, during the 2016 general elections, Kajura who then the 1st deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Public Services mortgaged land title of his land measuring 50 acres located in Kitoba Village, Kitoba Sub County, Bugahya county in Hoima district to get a loan of Shs 500 million.
In a civil suit filed at Masindi High Court in 2018, Sali wants Muganwa to be evicted from the land with his entire family since he has failed to pay the money since 2016.
Appearing before Masindi high court for mention of the matter on Monday, Kajura’s wife, Regina Kajura, who, with their lawyers were present in court, asked court to allow them transfer the powers of attorney from Kajura to the wife, citing Kajura’s ill health. They also asked the court to grant them two weeks to file their defense.
The Masindi High Court Resident Judge Jessy Byaruhanga granted the defendant three months leave to file all the necessary documents.
The matter was adjourned to September 28, 2022 for hearing.
