Mukesh Shukla alias Shumuk, the proprietor of Shumuk Aluminium Ltd
Not long ago, a guard at Shumuk Aluminium Ltd in Nakawa shot and killed two of his colleagues before turning the gun on himself.
The assailant, Emmanuel Machugayi, fatally shot Ashraf Kakyebei and Stephen Owechi at around 9:00 PM before taking his own life. The trio were all employees of Ryayo Security Group Ltd.
Now, adverts in the newspaper indicate that the Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) will, after 30 days, sell off aluminum-making products and a fabricating machine belonging to Shumuk Aluminum Ltd.
Shumuk Aluminium Ltd. is owned by businessman Mukesh Shukla, commonly referred to as Shumuk.
According to an advert published in the Daily Monitor on January 15, 2025, the taxman will move to sell aluminum-making products belonging to Shumuk unless Shumuk pays all outstanding tax arrears owed to the URA plus fees and costs incurred in the process before the expiry of 14 days from January 15, 2025.
Another advert is related to the sale of fabricating machines. The machines will also be sold off after 14 days from January 15, 2025.
It is not clear why Shumuk would fail to clear his tax arrears.
However, experts suggest that Shumuk’s troubles could have risen from his attempt at politics in 2021, having contested for the Nakawa West MP seat against NUP’s Joel Ssenyonyi. Matters worsened when he petitioned the court to nullify Ssenyonyi’s election. However, the court threw out the petition with costs on Shumuk’s side.
