Mukono, Uganda — Police have opened an attempted murder investigation after a shooting on the Kampala–Jinja Highway in Mukono Town late on 26 April 2026, authorities said.
The incident occurred at about 8:50 p.m. and left one man, identified as Tamale Joseph, injured. He was taken to Nsambya Hospital for treatment and has since been discharged. Police said Joseph is expected to record a formal statement as inquiries continue.
Preliminary findings indicate the shooting involved occupants of multiple motor vehicles traveling in the same direction, and that enforcement officers were among those involved. The Uganda Police Force said it will work alongside the Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) to investigate the circumstances of the shooting, including the conduct of officers implicated in the altercation.
“Investigations are ongoing, and further updates will be provided in due course,” Deputy Public Relations Officer for Kampala Metropolitan Police ASP Luke Owoyesigyire said in a press statement.
No arrests have been announced. Police urged anyone with information about the incident to come forward as the probe continues.
