Tension is building ahead of the much-anticipated NTV Uganda Presidential Debate slated for Sunday, November 30, 2025, with eight presidential candidates, including incumbent Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, expected to participate in the first major televised exchange of the 2026 campaign season.
While opposition candidates, particularly National Unity Platform (NUP) leader Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu (Bobi Wine), have openly welcomed the debate as a platform to challenge the incumbent, remarks attributed to President Museveni have stirred fresh controversy.
In a post shared by State House Online Editor Nelson Kapo Bwire, Museveni is quoted saying, “You cannot debate with someone who is unserious.”
The statement is widely interpreted as a jab at his opponents, especially Kyagulanyi, who earlier declared: “I will be there to share our vision for a New Uganda and to challenge Dictator Museveni on whatever new lies he wants to tell the people of Uganda after 40 years of deception and failed promises.”
This year’s debate, hosted by NTV at 8 pm, is expected to focus on governance, economic recovery, youth employment, security, and Uganda’s political trajectory. It presents a rare opportunity for top candidates to speak directly to the nation.
Whether Museveni will show up and engage his rivals remains uncertain, adding suspense to what is already one of the most anticipated political events of the campaign season.
