Namboole: Two shot as UPDF soldiers evict squatters

Two people are nursing bullet wounds at Gwattiro hospital and Good Samaritan Clinic respectively after a stray bullet his him during an eviction exercise at Namboole.
It is important to note that UPDF Engineering Brigade was contracted to carry out renovation of Namboole Stadium. During the process, they constructed a wall fence closing in all the encroachers on the land .
Encroachers were told to vacate, some left while there are few who remained demanding compensation from government.
Against the above background, there was an eviction Thursday morning.
“Today’s eviction was successful only that during the exercise some few people attempted to resist which forced UPDF soldiers to fire in the air and in the process a stray bullet injured one Wambi Moses aged 20 years, a boda boda rider, a resident of Namataba, Kirinya Bweyogerere Kiira Municipality Wakiso District. He was rushed to GwatIro hospital in Bweyogerere, where he is receiving treatment.and in stable condition,” Kampala Metropolitan Police Spokesperson Patrick Onyango said in a statement.
Onyango added: “We have registered another victim that was injured during the eviction of enchroachers of Namboole stadium land. The second victim was identified as Nuwamanya Warren, 43 years ,a boda boda rider, a resident of Kireka B, Kiira Municipality Wakiso District. He was injured by a stray bullet and rushed to Good Samaritan clinic in Kireka and he was discharged after receiving treatment.”
He commended residents “who willing left the land before the eviction and the local leaders for cooperating with security personnel during the eviction exercise.”
