NWSC: Corporation finds its name shaping 2026 MP race
By Grace Kyomuhendo
National Water and Sewerage Corporation (NWSC) yet again finds its name shaping the 2026 political environment in Rukiga district.
On Saturday, a number of Members of Parliament and well-wishers attended the Rukiga District Kabale Diocese Bishop’s Annual Appeal Fund (BAAF), fundraising function at Our Lady of Blessed Sacrament Kitanga Parish in Kashambya Sub-county, Rukiga district.
The fundraiser was aimed to support the development of St. Ignatius University Kabale.
However, the function turned political.
MPs including Herbert Ariko (Soroti City East), Dr Twaha Kagabo (Bukoto South), Mohammed Senkai (Bukoto West), Caroline Kamusiime (Rukiga Woman), Roland Bish Ndyomugyenyi (Rukiga County), Molly Asimwe (Rwampara Woman), Jenifer Abaho Muheesi (Kazo Woman), Annet Kamusiime Mugisha (Bushenyi Woman) and Bushenyi District LCV boss, Jaffer Basajjabalaba attended the function.
However, incumbent Rukida District Woman MP Caroline Kamusiime was shocked to find her colleagues in her constituency without her invite.
The said MPs were invited to the function by Dr. Sylvia Arinaitwe Mwanake, the Deputy Managing Director of NWSC.
Dr. Arinaitwe was the Chief Guest.
“As members of parliament, we work together. So, my fellow MPs saying that they are here for Dr. Slyvia is not good,” MP Kamusiime said.
Dr. Arinaitwe reportedly has an eye set on the same seat come 2026.
In fact, Kamusiime used the function to rally her supporters to send her back to Parliament in 2026.
However, Kamusiime’s action did not go down well with visitors of Dr. Arinaitwe.
“My sister, Caroline, take it with a good heart. It is true, as MPs we work together, but on this function, it was Dr. Sylvia who invited me to come and support her at this fundraising. You never invited me. I have a long history with Dr. Sylvia. I have known her for over 20 years. She is even the God Mother of my lastborn, who is 18 years,” said MP Annet Mugisha, the Bushenyi Woman Member of Parliament. Annet Mugisha is the wife of the Managing Director of NWSC, Eng. Dr. Silver Mugisha.
Kabale Diocesan Bishop Callistus Rubaramira however reminded his guests that the purpose of the function was not political, but centered on development. He assured Dr. Arinaitwe and Kamusiime that, as a bishop, he would pray for both candidates, leaving the rest to God.
