Onapito Ekomoloit: Burial set for November
Veteran journalist Onapito Ekomoloit will be laid to rest in November 2024, the government has announced.
“Following a meeting involving the family and lawyer of the deceased former Member of Parliament for Amuria and Presidential Press Secretary, Hon. Onapito Ekomoloit and the National Organising Committee (N.O.C) at the Cabinet library today, it has been agreed to align the burial arrangements with the will of the deceased,” said Presidency Minister, Milly Babalanda on Monday night.
“Therefore, Hon. Onapito will be buried in late November (this year) according to his wishes as contained in the will,” she observed.
Onapito, 58, succumbed to lung cancer at Kampala Hospital on Friday, September 27.
Teso elders have been holding meetings to plan for Onapito’s send-off.
Babalanda said the National Organising Committee, the family and Parliament will give an update on final arrangements early in November.
Rarely do funeral periods stretch for more than a week in Uganda.
Onapito served as President Museveni’s Press Secretary before moving to serve as Director of Legal and Corporate Affairs at Nile Breweries (NBL) in 2006, a position he held for 17 years.
President Museveni last week granted Onapito an official burial.
