Police in Oyam District have uncovered a suspected motorcycle number plate fraud ring following an intelligence-led operation carried out on 25 November 2025.
According to North Kyoga Regional Police Spokesperson SP PJ Okema, security teams raided Ajali Opoo Village, Adel Parish, Minakulu Sub-county after receiving credible intelligence that an organised criminal group was dismantling and altering number plates of suspected stolen motorcycles at the home of a local resident, Ayen Calvine.
During the search, conducted in the presence of the LC1 Chairperson and community members, officers recovered approximately 40 motorcycle number plates, which had been buried in a banana plantation. Police also recovered a box of spanners and other tools believed to be used for dismantling or modifying motorcycles, along with three bundles of dried opium and other items linked to criminal activity.
No arrests had been made by press time, but police say several suspects have been identified and efforts to track them down are ongoing.
SP Okema urged residents to continue cooperating with security agencies to ensure the culprits are apprehended and motorcycle theft in the region is curtailed.
