Police in Mukono District have intensified investigations into the brutal killing of Pamela Tumwebaze, the Director of Student Affairs at Uganda Christian University (UCU), amid revelations that a laptop was stolen from her home, raising questions about the motive behind the crime.
Tumwebaze, 46, a resident of Guafu West Village, Seeta Ward, Goma Division, was murdered by strangulation in the early hours of February 11, 2026, at her residence.
According to preliminary police findings, at around 2:00 a.m., the family housemaid reportedly spotted an unknown man inside her bedroom, dressed in the deceased’s jeans and stockings. The suspect allegedly fled the scene carrying a laptop bag belonging to Tumwebaze.
Alarmed, the housemaid and the children rushed to check on Tumwebaze and found her unresponsive in her bed. She was immediately taken to Namirembe Church of Uganda Hospital, where doctors pronounced her dead on arrival.
Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson SP Rachael Kawala said police task teams have been deployed to pursue the suspect and establish the full circumstances surrounding the killing.
“Investigations are ongoing, and operations are underway to identify, trace, and arrest the suspect,” Kawala said.
Police are now probing whether the killing was motivated by robbery or if other factors were involved.
Tumwebaze’s death has shocked the UCU community and the wider public, renewing concerns over rising violent crime and residential insecurity in urban areas.
Authorities have appealed to the public to share any information that may aid investigations as efforts continue to bring the perpetrator to justice.
