Person with Disability dies in Kisenyi fire
A person with disability has been confirmed dead after a Friday afternoon fire at Kakajjo Zone in Kisenyi.
The deceased has been identified as Godfrey Mukasa.
According to Police at Old Kampala, Mukasa died in a fire that started at about 2pm in the area.
The Police Directorate of Fire Prevention and Rescue Services with the help of the residents responded at the scene and managed to extinguish the fire before it would spread to other parts of Kisenyi.
However, Mukasa’s burnt body was found during a search in the fire affected area.
Luke Owoyesigyire, the Kampala Metropolitan Police (KMP) Deputy Spokesperson, Mukasa was seated with his friends when the fire started.
“All his colleagues ran away, but Mukasa was unable to flee the scene given because he had disabilities,” Owoyesigyire said.
“His body was found later in a burnt building and was conveyed to the city mortuary Mulago for a post mortem,” Owoyesgyire added.
The team also established that over 80 stores that deal in in grain, grinding machines, fridges were destroyed by the fire.
“The investigative teams have picked samples from the scene to establish the cause of the fire. The scene is being guarded by the police to prevent theft of property recovered from the structures that gutted fire,” said Owoyesigyire.
