The territorial Police in the Wamala Region, supported by the K9 unit, have arrested two suspects for allegedly stealing coffee from the garden of Steven Ssemujju, a 59-year-old resident of Kireku LC, Busimbi Division, Mityana District.
The suspects have been identified as Kigundu and his wife, Alice Ishimwe, both residents of Kireku Village.
Preliminary findings indicate that on the night of November 17, 2025, the duo trespassed onto Ssemujju’s garden and stole a quantity of unprocessed coffee.
On the morning of November 17, Ssemujju discovered that part of his garden had been tampered with and suspected that unknown individuals had harvested his coffee illegally. He immediately alerted the police.
A team of investigators, together with the Mityana K9 Unit, responded to the scene. Upon deployment, the police sniffer dog, Whisky, picked up a scent and tracked it for approximately 500 meters, leading officers directly to a store located on the property of the suspects.
Inside the store, police recovered freshly stolen coffee. The dog later led officers to an additional stash hidden behind the main building near the suspects’ latrine. Police also recovered a mosquito net believed to have been used to conceal and transport the stolen coffee.
Both suspects have been detained as investigations continue.
Police in the Wamala Region reiterate their commitment to combating theft of agricultural produce, and urge community members to remain vigilant and report suspicious activity promptly.
