A police officer has gone into hiding after shooting a motorist to death in Kampala.
“This afternoon, December 23, 2024, one of our officers, identified as No. 55915 PC Bahati Charles, shot and fatally wounded Ssemwaka Julius, a driver of vehicle registration number UAX 480C, along Sezibwa road,” reads part of a police statement.
Following the incident, PC Bahati fled the scene with his weapon and is currently on the run.
The police say that “A search operation is underway to locate him.”
“We have commenced investigations into the matter and will share details later,” said Police Spokesperson Rusoke Kituuma.
The motive of the shooting is yet to be known.
PC Bahati is attached to Justice Catherine Bamugemereire.
