President Yoweri Museveni has recalled all military officers from the police. In the past years, senior UPDF officers were sent to the police as directors. However, in the Friday shake-up, the President, who also doubles as the commander-in-chief, has recalled all officers except two, Tom Magambo (Director, Criminal Investigations) and Christopher Damulira (Director, Crime Intelligence).
The shake-up
In the Friday shake-up, the President appointed AIGP Rtd. Abas Byakagaba as the Inspector General of Police. He will be deputized by AIGP James Ocaya. Ocaya has been replaced by AIGP Hadijah Namutebi as Director of Research, Planning, and Development. SCP Moses Kafeero is the new Human Resources Director. He replaces Godfrey Golooba. AIGP Fadil Kaali is now the Director of Fire and Rescue Services. He replaces AIGP Joseph Mugisa, whose contract runs out in June. AIGP John Nuwagira has been transferred to the Field Force Unit’s Commandant. He replaces Kaali. Nuwagira was the director of operations. He has been replaced by SCP Frank Mwesigwa. Golooba, Maj. Gen. Katsigazi, Kandiho (Abel), and other UPDF officers who have been in the police’s top seats now return to Bombo awaiting deployment.
