RIP: Dr. Egwau
Soroti City is mourning the death of Dr. Godfrey Egwau, a prominent gynaecologist and proprietor of Welfare Clinic, who passed away on Sunday.
According to reports by Voice of Teso, Dr. Egwau died at Mulago National Referral Hospital, where he had been admitted. Details surrounding the cause of his death remain unclear as the family and medical authorities have not yet issued an official statement.
Dr. Egwau was widely regarded as one of the most dedicated and reliable specialists serving communities across Teso Sub-region, where he handled thousands of maternal health cases over the years.
His death adds to the growing list of medical professionals the country has lost in recent months. In June 2025, Uganda mourned Dr. John Spire Kiggundu, another renowned gynaecologist, while Dr. Ivan Kasule, a doctor at Mulago Hospital, was shot dead in August 2025.
The medical fraternity, patients, and leaders in Teso have expressed shock at the loss of a clinician who played a critical role in advancing reproductive health in the region.
