Prophet filmed flogging followers speaks out: I was only demonstrating how Jesus treated those he found selling goods in church
Prophet Denis Kintu, the man seen in a video flogging his followers in a Hoima church has spoken out.
Following the incident that went viral on social media, an investigation was instituted.
During the process of probe, he was summoned by the District security committee headed by the Resident City Commissioner, Badru Mugabi, and upon interrogation, he told the committee that what he did was only a demonstration of how Jesus treated those he found selling goods in church.
The committee also established that Kintu’s church is operating illegally without clear documents from the City Authority nor Uganda Registration Services Bureau.
The committee, therefore, decided to arrest the prophet and 04 other members of his church. They are: James Mugisha, Stella Mbabazi, Twaha Tusiime and Bila Nsiimwe.
They are all detained at Hoima Central Division Headquarters.
Regional Police Spokesperson Julius Allan Hakiza confirmed arrest in a statement Thursday.
According to Hakiza, a search conducted inside the church led to recovery of 03 pieces of sticks that is suspected to have been used by the suspect.
“We call upon the Uganda Human Rights Commission to pick interest in the conduct of such self-proclaimed prophets who are abusing the right to serve God,” Hakiza said.
