UCAA Director General Fred Bamwesigye
The government has kicked off the process of laying off over 150 staff of the Uganda Civil Aviation Authority (UCAA) over a number of issues, including forgeries of academic documents.
This follows a directive from the President calling for the same.
As that process continues, UCAA Director General Fred Bamwesigye finds himself in the mix of the sackings over age fraud.
Bamwesigye says that he was born on November 27, 1967.
This means Bamwesigye was 54 years old in 2021 when he was seeking another tenure as UCAA boss.
Yet, on June 22, 2011, Bamwesigye applied for a visa to Canada using his passport registration number BO861672—showing that he was born on November 27, 1963.
The passport confirms he was 58 years old in 2021, making him ineligible for the top position.
The variation in Bamwesigye’s dates of birth has raised concerns about the credibility of the academic documents that he has used to earn large sums of taxpayer money in fat salaries.
Born in Ruhaama, Ntungamo, Bamwesigye previously served as human resource manager at the National Environmental Authority (NEMA) before joining CAA to serve in the same position.
He was later appointed Acting Director General following the retirement of Prof. David Kakuba in early 2020.
