The police at Old Kampala are actively investigating a robbery of cash incident that was reported on the 19th of November, 2024.
Preliminary findings indicate that two G4S security guards, while transiting cash from Lubowa to Nakasero, allegedly conspired to rob the bullion van, registration number UAJ 199T. The vehicle was later abandoned in Nabunya, Rubaga Division, along with two rifles.
According to the security company, the stolen cash amounted to One Billion, Sixty-Nine Million, Four Hundred and Twenty Thousand Ugandan Shillings (UGX 1,069,420,000) and USD 14,474.
Police embarked on rigorous investigations immediately, leading to the arrest of one suspect, Otim Ambrose Richard, in Kwania District. He was found in possession of One Hundred Seventeen Million Ugandan Shillings (UGX 117,000,000), suspected to be part of the stolen money.
Investigations are ongoing, said Deputy Kampala Metropolitan Police Spokesman Luke Owoyesigyire.
“We assure the public that every effort is being made to recover the remaining money and bring all culprits to justice,” added Owoyesigyire.
