Hundreds of Ugandan Rotarians have been barred from traveling to Taipei, Taiwan, for the 2026 Rotary International Convention due to Ebola-related travel restrictions.
The convention, scheduled for June 13–17, 2026, was expected to draw participants from around the world, with Ugandan delegates set to begin their journeys last Friday.
However, following the Ebola situation in Uganda, Taiwanese authorities reportedly cancelled all visas issued to Ugandan passport holders, effectively blocking their participation. Rotarian Raymond Kavuma, one of the affected delegates, described the development as a major disappointment after months of preparation and anticipation. “The road to the Rotary International Convention 2026 in Taipei ends here for me,” he said, noting that “all Taiwanese visas with Ugandan passport holders were immediately cancelled,” meaning Rotarians and Rotaractors from Uganda will not attend this year’s convention.
Kavuma, who was scheduled to travel on June 6, said he remains grateful for the opportunity and hopeful for better days ahead, while wishing safe travels to those able to attend.
