Collin Babirukamu
Following a Shs 60 billion heist at the Bank of Uganda after a “systems breach” last year, the Bank of Uganda has hired IT expert Collin Babirukamu. News of Babirukamu’s recruitment emerged early this week.
Days ago, suspects in the heist, including IT experts, were arrested, charged, and remanded. At least 60 billion shillings were fraudulently paid out to recipients in the United Kingdom (UK) and Japan.
The recruitment of Babirukamu is expected to, among other things, address such breaches.
Babirukamu has over 20 years of experience in leadership and business transformation using information technology. Until recently, Babirukamu was the Director e-government services at NITA Uganda.
Before NITA-U, he worked as the Cloud Territory Leader at Oracle Corporation East Africa since August 2018; he was the Chief Information Officer (CIO) and Head of IT at NSSF—Uganda, where he spearheaded the business transformation of the back-end operations, customer-facing systems, and change management using innovative technology solutions.
Babirukamu holds a Bachelor’s of Computer Science (BCS) from Mbarara University of Science & Technology and a Master’s in Leadership Development in ICT & the Knowledge Society from the University of Mauritius. He also holds a Post Graduate Diploma in Business Administration from the University of Leicester (UK) and another Post Graduate Diploma in ICT & Knowledge Society from Dublin City University (Ireland).
