Pamela Ruth Tumwebaze

Police in Mukono District have revealed that Pamela Tumwebaze, the slain Director of Student Affairs at Uganda Christian University (UCU), was living at a residence owned by Patrick Mugumya, one of the directors of the RedPepper tabloid, as investigations into her murder intensify.

Tumwebaze, 46, was murdered by strangulation in the early hours of February 11, 2026, at a home located in Guafu West Village, Seeta Ward, Goma Division, Mukono District.

According to police, preliminary findings indicate that at around 2:00 a.m., the family housemaid reportedly saw an unknown man inside her bedroom, wearing clothes belonging to the deceased, including her jeans and stockings. The suspect then allegedly fled the scene carrying a laptop bag belonging to Tumwebaze.

The housemaid and the children later checked on Tumwebaze and found her unresponsive in her bed. She was rushed to Namirembe Church of Uganda Hospital, where she was pronounced dead on arrival.

Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson SP Rachael Kawala said task teams have been deployed to track down the suspect and establish the motive behind the killing.

“Investigations are ongoing, and operations are underway to identify, trace, and arrest the suspect. We remain committed to ensuring that the perpetrator is apprehended and brought to justice,” Kawala said.

Police are now connecting the dots to determine whether the attacker may have been targeting another person at the residence.

Family confirmed that the house belongs to Patrick Mugumya, who currently resides in the United Kingdom with his family. Sources further disclosed that Tumwebaze was Mugumya’s in-law.

Authorities say the missing laptop is being treated as a critical lead as detectives assess whether the killing was robbery-related or driven by other motives.

Tumwebaze’s death has sent shockwaves through the UCU community and the wider public, renewing concern over residential security and violent crime.

Police have appealed to anyone with information that could aid the investigations to come forward.
