Sombre mood as first doctor succumbs to Ebola, 3 others critical in ICU

By Davis Mugabi

There is a sombre mood within the medical fraternity following the death of Dr. Mohammad Ali, a Tanzanian national,

I regret to announce that we have lost our first doctor, Dr Mohammed Ali, 37; a Tanzanian National, which happened at 3:15am.

According to Health Minister Dr. Jane Ruth Aceng, Ali tested positive of Ebola on Sept 26, 2022 and died “while receiving treatment at Fort Portal RRH, Isolation facility ( JMedic).”

“I condole with his family, medical fraternity, KIU university and the people of Tanzania. Dr. Ali is the first Doctor, and second health worker to have succumbed to Ebola. The first was a midwife from St Florence Clinic, a probable case, because she died before testing,” Dr. Aceng said Saturday morning.

Dr. Samuel Odong Oledo, President – Medical Association, says 3 other doctors are in critical condition.

“True the worst has happened this morning we lost one of the SHOs in the fight of EBOLA, Jesussssssssss how many health workers shall we lose until things get better , 3 are critically ill and need ICU management too,” Dr. Oledo tweeted shortly after Dr. Ali was confirmed dead.

Uganda’s current Ebola deaths now moves to 8 with about 35 cumulative confirmed cases.
