Standard Chartered Bank is investigating an incident of suspected cyber fraud following reports that several clients had funds withdrawn from their accounts early Sunday morning.
Multiple customers reported that their savings had been swept from their accounts through what the bank believes may be a case of card-related fraud.
A source at the bank said preliminary information points to a widespread card fraud incident, noting that the matter is still under active investigation.
“There is a massive card fraud that occurred this morning. The bank is working to establish how it happened and the full extent of the impact,” the source said.
Clients have been advised to immediately report any suspicious or unauthorized transactions to the bank.
“If you detect any unusual activity on your account, please contact the bank immediately on 0313 294100,” the source added.
Standard Chartered Bank has not yet issued an official public statement detailing the number of affected accounts or the total amount involved, but investigations are ongoing.
