Tanzania’s Precision air plane crashes into Lake Victoria
An airplane belonging to Tanzania’s Precision Air has reportedly crash-landed into Lake Victoria.
As reported by Tanzania Broadcasting Corporation (TBC) on Sunday morning, the passenger plane had left Dar es Salaam heading to Bukoba through Mwanza .
The cause of the crash as reported by TBC was caused heavy rainfall and strong wind as it attempted to land at Bukoba airport.
“Ndege ya Precision Air iliyokuwa inatoka Dar es Salaam kwenda Bukoba kupitia Mwanza imedondoka katika Ziwa Victoria kutokana na kukumbwa na mvua kubwa na upepo mkali,”
TBC highlighted that it had spoken to its writer Charles Mwebeya who is reporting live from the scene and explained that rescue exercises were ongoing.
“TBC imezungumza na Charles Mwebeya kutoka katika eneo hilo ambapo amesema zoezi la uokoaji wa abiria linaendelea katika eneo hilo ikiwemo kuitoa ndege hiyo ziwani,”
“Endelea kufuatilia mitandao yetu ya kijamii kwa taarifa zaidi,” TBC reported.
Precision Air went ahead and confirmed the plane crash.
“Precision Air flight no. 494, flying from Dar es Salaam to Bukoba, was involved in an accident as it was approaching Bukoba Airport,” reads the statement.
The rescue team has been dispatched to the scene and more information will be released by the airline in two hours’ time.
