Tribute! Mutebile: No problem was too big for him to handle – Patrick Bitature
By Patrick Bitature
‘Profoundness’ is not an everyday word in our vocabulary. It comes to mind because I flew to Nairobi last week purposely to visit a special friend at the Nairobi hospital, Emmanuel Tumusiime Mutebile.
A man of profound wisdom.
“Profoundness is the characteristic of being full of meaningful insight”. That was my friend and elder Emmanuel Tumusiime. Another powerful description often misused except in his case is ‘Reliability’. The true meaning of Reliability, and I mean it with a capital ‘R’ is one that describes this special friend to so many of us whose time has come to move on.
The passing of Bank of Uganda’s Governor Mutebile Tumusiime emboldened and amplifies those words to me for he was a man so many of us looked up to. He said what he meant and always meant what he said, and that earned him much deserved respect.
In his disarming demeanor such a gentle giant with a brilliant mind and incredible foresight, was able to handle anything. No problem was too big for him to handle. There was always a way.
Uganda has lost an economic pillar of stability and a first among equals son.
He leaves a huge void that will be hard to fill.
I commiserate with his wife Betty who stood by him every step of the way and showed unrelenting care and love especially in his later years of declining health.
We thank you.
May the Lord Almighty grant Emmanuel Tumusiime Mutebile’s soul eternal peace and grace.
His legacy shall live on forever as the most formidable economist and central banker.
