Uganda Airlines has announced the addition of another flight between Entebbe / Uganda and Johannesburg / South Africa.

The airline will with immediate effect offer 5 flights per week, operating on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday.

The Friday service will use an Airbus A330-800Neo in a three class configuration of Business, Premium Economy and Economy while the flights on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Saturday will use the CRJ900 with a two class cabin layout of Business and Economy.

“Uganda Airlines will be adding a 5th weekly flight on the Entebbe-Joburg-Entebbe route, starting this Wednesday, the 1st of March 2023. Flights will now be: Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday & Saturday. Passenger movements on the route are up 1355% from last FY,” Monica Rubombora, an official of the Airline based in South Africa said recently.

The additional flight is a result of increased demand following the lifting of almost all Covid19 travel protocols, which impacted negatively on air travel.

Travelers should note that South Africa is now progressively rolling out new online travel registration requirements, introduced by SARS, the South African Revenue Services. Johannesburg’s OR Tambo International Airport will come on line on the 23rd of March.

Meanwhile, the governments of Uganda and that of South Africa are considering having Ugandans arriving in South Africa to get visas on arrival.

This was art of the discussion when President Yoweri Museveni was in South Africa this week. The talks are expected to continue when SOuth Africa’s Cyril Ramaphosa visits Uganda in the coming days.

For now, it’s only those with diplomatic and service passports that do not need visas to enter South Africa.
