Kampala: A Ugandan football fan has issued a dramatic notice of intent to sue Arsenal Football Club, citing “professional negligence” and breach of duty following the club’s defeat to AFC Bournemouth.
The fan, identified as Eric Kyama from Kampala, addressed a formal complaint to the club’s headquarters in London, accusing both the players and manager Mikel Arteta of failing to meet expected professional standards.
In the letter dated April 11, 2026, Kyama claims the team’s performance lacked effort, tactical direction, and competitive spirit, describing it as a “fundamental breach of the implied contract” between the club and its global fanbase.
He accuses the players of “professional negligence,” arguing they failed to demonstrate urgency or purpose on the pitch, while also faulting Arteta for “tactical incompetence” in handling the match.
Kyama further argues that Arsenal’s display caused “emotional and financial distress” to supporters who invest time and resources into the club, and accused the team of misrepresenting its core values.
“The lack of fighting spirit shown against Bournemouth is a fraudulent misrepresentation of these core values,” part of the letter reads.
He warned that unless the club provides a satisfactory explanation and outlines steps to restore competitive standards, he will pursue legal action seeking damages.
The development comes amid growing pressure on Arsenal, with concerns that rivals Manchester City could catch up in the title race if they win their games in hand.
While the legal basis of such a case remains highly questionable, the incident reflects the intensity of football fandom and the frustration among supporters following disappointing performances.
