Dr. Abdul Majid Shirazi

Uganda’s medical fraternity and wider public are mourning the death of Dr. Abdul Majid Shirazi, a celebrated orthopaedic surgeon, mentor, and former President of the Orthopaedic Society of Uganda.

In a statement, the Orthopaedic Society of Uganda hailed Dr. Shirazi as “a visionary, mentor, and leader whose legacy will live on through the countless lives he touched.” As one of the founding members of the society, he played a pivotal role in shaping orthopaedic practice and training in the country.

Tributes have poured in from colleagues, friends, and patients alike. Tony Otoa, one of his former patients, shared an emotional message:

“My great doctor and friend is gone! The best orthopaedic doctor I knew. When I broke my collarbone recently, he mended me in less than six weeks. My visits to his clinic, Ultima in Nakasero, were always full of laughter and stories about his family. We cracked jokes about life — I will miss him dearly.”

Another mourner, Nada Andersen, described him as “a man with a healing touch,” adding, “We lost a gem and a pillar of orthopaedic surgery in Uganda.”

Dr. Shirazi, who ran Ultima Trauma Hospital in Nakasero, was widely admired for his professionalism, compassion, and contribution to advancing trauma and orthopaedic care in Uganda.

His passing marks a huge loss to the country’s medical community and all those whose lives he healed and inspired.
