Uganda’s coffee on the wheels initiative collapses

By Davis Mugabi

Coffee brewed and served on tricycles, an initiative of coffee-preneur Mugume (not real name), has collapsed.

A few years ago, the initiative cropped up and was heavily supported by the UNDP on account of the fact that it would give jobs to a number of young people. On top of coffee, rolex (a mix of chapati and eggs) and other bites were part of the menu.

However, years later, the initiative seems to have collapsed. Sources in the know earlier suggested that meager and no pay cost the initiative.

A few remaining points, especially at Makerere University’s small gate at Wandegeya and another along Bombo Road (opposite Wandegeya Police Station), are the latest to have closed shop.

Not much is known about the controversial entrepreneur’s next move. However, the enterpreneur has recently been in the news over money meant for the coffee sector players.
