Dr. Jackson Orem
The Global Health Catalysts has Dr. Jackson Orem, Director of the Uganda Cancer Institute, as the recipient of the Distinguished Global Oncology Leader Award at the upcoming HOPE Summit, taking place on June 7, 2025.
Selected unanimously by the organizing committee and previous award recipients, this honor recognizes individuals whose leadership has made a lasting and transformative impact on global cancer care, especially in settings where resources are limited and innovation, resilience, and collaboration are essential.
Dr. Orem’s visionary leadership at the Uganda Cancer Institute has redefined what is possible in global oncology. Under his direction, the institute has become a center of excellence in cancer research, education, and care. He has significantly expanded access to treatment, strengthened research infrastructure, and built a strong oncology workforce that serves Uganda and the wider region.
His dedication to equitable cancer care, commitment to evidence-based solutions, and ability to foster international partnerships have positioned Uganda as a leader in cancer control strategies across Africa. Dr. Orem has also helped elevate Africa’s voice in global health forums through his engagement with the African Organization for Research and Training in Cancer and other international networks.
