The Uganda Human Rights Commission (UHRC) has urged government to immediately release novelist Rukira Kakwenza or produce and charge him before the courts of law.
In a statement Friday evening, the Commission said it has over the past days visited various security and detention facilities in and around the Country to locate Kakwenza.
“The Commission has equally been engaging security agencies and relevant government authorities to ensure that justice for Kakwenza prevails,” the statement reads in part.
Kakwenza was arrested last week over offensive communication against President Yoweri Museveni and Lt. Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba, the Commander Land Forces of the UPDF.
