Jinja, Uganda – The Uganda National Oil Company (UNOC) has confirmed that one of its senior staff members, Eng. Gershom Rwakasanga, is missing after an accident at Busowoko Falls in Jinja District.
According to a statement released by UNOC management, Eng. Rwakasanga, who serves as Manager, Terminals and Operations at the company’s Jinja office, accidentally fell into the river on Saturday, October 11, 2025.
Following the incident, search and rescue operations were immediately launched by the Uganda Police, local emergency response teams, and community members. The efforts to locate him are still ongoing, UNOC said.
“UNOC has been working with police and other emergency services as well as the community in Jinja to conduct search and rescue operations since the time of this incident. These operations continue,” the company’s statement reads in part.
UNOC described the incident as “regrettable” and expressed its solidarity with Eng. Rwakasanga’s family and colleagues during this difficult time.
“Our prayers go out to our colleague Gershom as the search efforts continue,” the statement added.
The company also assured the public that it will keep stakeholders informed as more information becomes available.
Busowoko Falls, located along the River Nile in Jinja, is a popular tourism and recreation site but has also seen several accidents in recent years, often due to the area’s strong water currents.
