UPDATE: 10 mourners die in Kyenjojo accident

A road crash occurred on August 28, 2024, at approximately 04:00 am at Kaihura along the Fort Portal highway and resulted in the loss of ten lives. The crash involved the UBE 807T Isuzu Bus belonging to Pokopoko Company and the UBR 812 G Toyota Hiace.

Traffic Spokesman Michael Kananura confirmed the incident.

Preliminary investigations reveal that the Toyota Hiace driver, whose normal route was Mbarara-Ntungamo-Kabale Road, was hired to transport mourners from Ntungamo to Kyenjojo for burial. He operated the vehicle continuously without rest day and night and was also unfamiliar with the terrain. The vehicle veered out of its lane while at Kaihura and collided head-on with the oncoming bus.

The impact resulted in the tragic loss of ten lives, including the driver, all of whom were passengers in the Toyota Hiace. The bodies have been transported to Kyenjojo Hospital for post-mortem examination, and the vehicles have been towed to the station for further investigation.
