Walk To Work: Besigye blocked, put under preventive arrest

By Marvin Ocol

Former presidential candidate, Col. Kizza Besigye was this morning intercepted by security operatives and returned to his home in Kasangati, Wakiso District as he attempted to get out in a new drive dubbed awakening the citizens of Uganda.

The ex-Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) party President was intercepted moments after he addressed journalists and said he intends to start a campaign which he described as a wakeup call for all the citizens to regain their country.

Deputy Kampala Metropolitan Police Spokesperson Luke Owoyesigyire, however, says that the four-time Presidential candidate is at home.

“We stopped him from accessing the city centre as a way of stopping what could have resulted into a chaotic situation if he is given access to demonstrate without following strict guidelines as put in POMA (Public Order Management Act),” Owoyesigyire said.

According to our security sources, Besigye intends to return the popular walk to work demo in protest of rising commodity prices.
