Maj Gen Sabiiti Muzeyi, former Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIGP) and current General Manager of Luwero Industries, is recovering at Nakasero Hospital following a serious road accident in Western Uganda on Saturday evening.
The army officer was airlifted to Kampala after the crash and admitted for emergency treatment. By Sunday morning, family sources confirmed that he and his family were out of danger.
The incident has reignited stories of Maj Gen Sabiiti’s reputation for humility, integrity, and professionalism, both in uniform and in civilian service.
One often-cited account dates back to his time as DIGP. Shortly after his transfer from the Uganda Police Force back to the army in 2020, Sabiiti reportedly returned over Shs 500 million that had been allocated to his office for police operations. Instead of fabricating accountability for the funds, as some feared might have happened, he handed the money back to the police undersecretary.
“Had it been a rogue officer, he would have created all manners of accountability to justify that expenditure just to make sure he doesn’t return the money,” a source close to the matter recalled.
Appointed DIGP in 2018, Sabiiti was recalled to the UPDF two years later and assigned to lead Luwero Industries, a subsidiary of the National Enterprise Corporation (NEC), the army’s business arm.
As news of his accident spread, messages of encouragement and prayers for his quick recovery have poured in from colleagues, friends, and the public, underscoring the respect he commands across Uganda’s security establishment.
