Why Emergency Pills Aren’t Working For You

By Ashley Tumukunde

The past few days have seen social media, especially X, get awash with reports of after-sex pills not working as said to be.

Some X users highlight specific products. Whether it is true (about these specific products) or not, experts say that how one uses pills matters.

“Some of you use emergency pills at the wrong time, particularly during ovulation, and then wonder why they don’t work,” says Dr. Blair Kizza.

Timing is Crucial, adds Dr. Kizza. He explains that “Emergency pills are most effective when taken before ovulation.”

“Once the egg is released, the pill’s ability to prevent pregnancy significantly decreases,” he adds.

According to Dr. Kizza, emergency pills work primarily by delaying or inhibiting ovulation.

“If ovulation has already occurred, their effectiveness is greatly reduced,” he said.
