On Monday, the Police made a major breakthrough in cracking the puzzle around land grab in Kira-Namugongo and the surrounding areas.

For a long time, a man named Yusuf Ssemakula ensured that he identified ‘idle’ land, staged a fight and gabbed it.

This, he did with the strong backing of those in security and allies in the Judiciary.

However, his luck ran out on Monday when he defrauded a well-connected woman off Shs 800 million in a fake land deal.

He was presented before the Court in Kira on Wednesday and remanded until November 14, 2023.

Well-placed details indicate that the Deputy Inspector General of Police, Geoffrey Tumusiime-Katsigazi and the Director, Crime Intelligence, AIGP Christopher Damulira, blocked their eyes to whichever noise there was, arrested Ssemakula and had him detained.

“A powerful woman in the Police Land Protection Unit wrote to AIGP Damulira to have Ssemakula released, but she was ignored,” a knowledgeable source says on condition of anonymity.

It remains to be seen if Ssemakula’s story will end with this particular case and his name forgotten like that of Sipapa or he will return and start from where he left his land grab acts.
