2026 Polls: More trouble for NRM’s Wanyoto as incumbent anoints youthful Ritah Namuwenge

By Wappa Wonya

As the 2026 political environment takes shape, incumbent Member of Parliament for Mbale City, Connie Nakayenze Galiwango, has reportedly annointed the youthful Ritah Namuwenge ahead of the 2026 Parliamentary polls.

Galiwango told a gathering in Mbale City recently that she will not seek re-election in 2026.

She used that opportunity to introduce Namuwenge to the electorate.

“I welcome my daughter Ritah Namuwenge, who declared her bid for the 2026 Mbale city woman MP race. I assure you that we have decided to support her openly now, tomorrow, and beyond 2026. I, therefore, ask you to rally your support for her,” Galiwango told the gathering at Mbale Cricket Ground. The State Minister for Gender, Peace Regis Mutuuzo, presided over that function.

The annointment of Namuwenge means another headache for perennial campaigner Lydia Wanyoto (NRM).

Others with interests are reported to be Mbale City Deputy Mayor Harriet Kakai, Sarah Wasagali, Irene Wanyoto, Rachael Kakungulu, and Jalia Namasaba, among others.
