Here’s one thing that’s not often talked about and occasionally haunts people later in life: University is supposed to prepare you for self-management and adulthood. You have freedom, a budget (pocket money), assignments and deadlines etc. – and you’re supposed to develop the discipline to navigate this world on your own with little or no supervision and still deliver good results. Discipline and self-management are qualities most employers or investors are looking for in employees or founders. So many people have gotten that degree and then failed to hack it in the workplace or business because they lack self-management. If you’ve just graduated, my congratulations to you, but that degree is not enough. Develop discipline, self-management and the drive to learn new skills.
